The foundation
Serere secondary school was founded by Church of Uganda Soroti Diocese as a community school, and is grant aided since its inception in 1982. The school is located in the heart of Serere District, and with catchment coverage of 15 sub counties, including the Town councils. It was established purposely to provide affordable quality secondary education opportunities to all students, especially the rural needy from Serere area and beyond. The institution which started with an enrolment of only 35 (7 female and 28 male) students, 11 teachers with only 3 of them as qualified, has since grown in both enrolment and staffing. This has been possible due to commitment of the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES), Foundation Body, Board of Governors (BOG), Parents Teachers Association (PTA), School Administration, staff and students.
Introduction of Advanced Level Education
The Church of Uganda Soroti Diocese founded Serere Secondary School in 1982 as a government-aided community institution. Situated in Serere District, the school serves 15 sub-counties and neighboring town councils. Its founding mission focused on delivering affordable, high-quality secondary education to vulnerable rural students across the region.
The school began operations with 35 students (7 girls and 28 boys) alongside 11 teachers, only 3 of whom were professionally qualified. Through dedicated collaboration among the Ministry of Education and Sports, the Foundation Body, the Board of Governors, the Parents Teachers Association, school administrators, staff, and students, the institution expanded its enrollment and professional teaching capacity.
Establishment of the Mini-Boarding Section
In 2012, the school launched a mini-boarding section with approval from the Ministry of Education and Sports. The administration repurposed existing facilities to improve pupil safety, attendance rates, punctuality, and direct instructional time with teachers.
